Jet-setters and Trend-setters

The Optix Team travels extensively to hand-select from the finest collections and designers on the market today. We’ve been curating one of Milwaukee’s most cutting-edge collections for the last 25 years. As the first Milwaukee optical to bring these European collections into the city, Optix was a pioneer, and continues to set the trend. Many of the brands we carry are
exclusive in Milwaukee to Optix on Downer.

Your Complete Optical Experience

The Lab

YOU DESERVE A LITTLE INSTANT GRATIFICATION.

Even if you’re not an optical geek like us, you’ll appreciate our new specialty eyeglass lab. Our skilled opticians can make prescription glasses using any frame and prescription right on the spot in our customized lab, often within 30-60 minutes, depending on the prescription. So go grab a coffee on Downer or pick up a nice Beaujolais at Downer Wines and when you’re done, your glasses will be too.

Even the most difficult and detailed frames are done here in house, which means you’ll get your glasses back to you much quicker than almost any other optical in the city. Our expert opticians are dedicated to their craft and your satisfaction.

Contact Lens

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE.

Over 30 million Americans wear contacts, largely because the variety of lenses on the market today is as diverse as the people who wear them. New technologies allow us to meet the needs of almost every individual who walks through our door; difficult prescriptions, tough fittings, bifocal, multi-focal, progressive and specialty lenses. You name it, we’ve handled it. While everyone considers choosing their eyeglasses to be a serious, personal choice, many people don’t realize what an intimate decision contact lens selection really is. Think about it, they are called contact lenses because they touch your eye. That’s pretty intimate.

Our optometrists have been fitting contact lenses for over 15 years. We know that getting the right lenses for your lifestyle is critical to your eye health. Because what good is a daily lens if you’re only going to change it once a month, right? We match you with the right lens for your routine, so that you can enjoy lasting eye health and comfort.

Once we’ve helped you establish a healthy relationship with your lenses, we are committed to our relationship with you. Our door is open, stop in any time, service is on the house.

Vision Health

Is this better…
or this?

We know what you’re thinking: Eye exams are all the same. Well, maybe we can change your mind. The sweeping wand of technology has not left the field of optometry untouched. Here at Optix on Downer we use a german-engineered high res optomap imaging to capture more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. We know you’ll miss getting your pupils dilated, but we’re sure you’ll get over it.

Everyone knows that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but they are also windows to your blood vessels. And because your retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly, the retina can show us the first signs heart disease, stroke, diabetes and even some cancers.

ARE YOU READING THIS ON A COMPUTER RIGHT NOW?

Our computers keep us productive and connected, but they also put strain on our eyesight. The eye muscle is a fluid system. If you have to focus on the computer screen for long hours, that system becomes locked up. Eye strain can be helped with glasses, but try adjusting glare, lighting and viewing distance before exploring special glasses. For more information on computer eye strain, read this article in M Magazine.

What type of insurance do you accept at Optix?

We accept many plans including: VSP, NVA, Eye Med, and Superior Vision. Please call to see if we accept your insurance.

Do I need an appointment to pick out glasses?

No, just stop on by. Only visits requiring you to see our doctors need an appointment.

How often do you get new frames at Optix?

We’re always updating our extensive collection to bring new lines and styles to Milwaukee from all over the world.

How often should I have my eyes examined?

Our doctors recommend a yearly eye exam to check for changes in your prescription and to evaluate your eye health.

Do I need to have my eyes dilated at the exam?

Dilated exams allow our doctors to see a larger part of the retina and help diagnose certain eye diseases and health problems. Our doctors will recommend dilation if they feel that it is necessary during your exam.

Do you carry non-prescription sunglasses at Optix?

Yes. We have a wide selection of designer non-prescritpion eyewear, and any of our frames can be made into non-prescription sunglasses.

Will one pair of glasses fit all my needs?

Our doctors may recommend glasses for different needs, including: computer or near vision, distance vision, sunwear, multifocal or progressive lenses. Many of our patients have multiple pairs of glasses to fit different styles as well.

What type of contacts do you fit and carry at Optix?

We carry trials of all major brands of contacts and our doctors fit the contacts based on the need of each individual.
